There is an excellent full teaching video in this months ICC newsletter by NM Dan Heisman "Improve Your Chess". ICC News button & scroll down to link 'Dan's first video in full' (lack off images on newsletter senders fault! - 'not mine gov'). Congratulations to Peter Mason on his splendid total of 4 ½ out of 5 to win the Club 15 minute Championship. He conceded only one draw, to Andy Reeves, and had victories against Rob, Taka, Paul H. and Neil. Rob came a clear second with just the single defeat to Peter. In all 12 players took part, including two guests for the evening from the United States, Ron Larsen and his young son Eric – both of who played well and had an enjoyable evening. Final Standings [out of 5]Peter 4 ½ Rob 3 ½ Taka 3 Roy 2 ½ Helmut 2 Ron 1 Club Championship [6 rounds]Congratulations to Paul Howden who was crowned Club Champion with an unbeaten score of 5 out of 6. Going into the last round there were a number of possible winners with Paul on 4/5 and Andy R., Tim and Roy all close behind on 3½ / 5. A last round victory for Paul with Black against Roy meant that victories for Tim and Andy in their respective games left them in clear joint second position. Final Standings [out of 6]Paul 5 Tim 4 ½ Roy 3 ½ Full details to follow Well done to RF '1' who didn't slip up & managed to win the LCA Div 1. Click LCA tables ButtonAlso congratulations can be already be given to both 'RF2' and 'RF3' who remain safe in the 1st division to fight another season, regardless of what happens in the last round of matches. The 2nd division has been particularly tough this season with Leeds Uni entering a team and West Leeds'A' punching above their weight all season. Copperworks 'C' have mysteriously been playing better than their 'B' team in the 1st division at least through the last half of the season? Leeds Uni and West Leeds 'A' are playing each other in the last round of the season with Leeds Uni white at home . A mutual draw between them would see them both promoted to the 1st division, leaving Copperworks 'C' in 3rd place. However if Leeds Uni and West Leeds 'A' fight it out to see who can be division 2 champions they could leave the door open for Copperworks 'C' to step into 2nd place and promotion.Meanwhile I'm proud to say that RF '5' have been punching well above their weight all season with a good team spirit and have been swapping 4th place with RF'4' constantly from the start and was a good battle within the division. Until the last few weeks when RF '4' have secured 4th place due to players unavoidably having to leave the 5th team for higher teams because of player shortages. There will be a complete LCA final season update of tables, results and news after the last round on 14th May as soon as they become available to me.I need some help with club news to put up on this page. So to all team captains & members I'm asking for close or exciting match reports or any other club news & photos. You can e-mail any stuff to me here - steve (steven.russell4@ntlworld.com)Paul Howden is the new treasurer so give all board fees and expense claims to him.possibly the team result of the 2007/2008 season ?Come on RF'A' lets have more consistent results next year like the one bellow & you could be in with a shout for the IM Brown title! On Sat 13th October 2007, heavily out graded on each board. Rose Forgrove 'A' scored a great victory against last years YCA division 1 winners York Railway Institute 'A', beating them 4.5 - 3.5 pts. Until then York RI 'A' had not lost a match for two years and as it transpired at the end of the season this great win by RF 'A' may have cost York RI 'A' yet another consecutive IM Brown title. This year being won by Sheffield 'A'.
2007 Club ChampionshipWinner with 5/6 points: Paul Salisbury Joint second with 4.5/6 points : Clive Davies & Peter Mason Congratulations to the winners and all who took part.
Conclusions of the AGM (2007)1) Membership fees are to become ₤15 per member regardless of income (₤6.00 for juniors) as ₤10 for each member has to be paid to the ECF ( this includes ECF registration, grading compilation, discounts for all ECF rated congresses & rapidplays). Rose forgrove only receives ₤5 for each member. 2) Board fees are to remain the same as last year ₤3.00 waged & ₤1.50 unwaged. 3) A team rotation system is to be introduced for the responsibility of setting up & putting away boards for all home LCA matches. The allocated team & captain would have this duty only 3 times a year & would involve arriving at 6:45pm or earlier. Hopefully this will ensure that all matches will start & finish on time. (Other home team captains would still be expected to arrive 10 min's early in case of a problem such as keys have been forgotten and access is needed). Clive will compile the seasons fixtures for this duty & give to each captain before the start of the season. Also he will put a reminder on each team sheet.
